Salt - It is being considered as one of the oldest preservatives used for food. Ancient people use salt as a preservative for fish and meat. And food can also extend its good condition for years. Apart from moisture, salt also prevents mold and yeast from coming in.

Vinegar - Another world's oldest preservative is vinegar. It contains acetic which kills bacteria and other micro-organisms that are contaminated in the food.

Sugar - The sweet sugar acts similarly to salt: it takes the moisture away from food. Foods that are preserved in sugar are typically sweet. It can either be preserved in syrup form or it can be cooked in sugar until they crystallize.
