The ways of preserving food has been practiced by people ever since time began. They found ways on how to keep the food shelf life longer because it is necessary for the ancient people to have use of the food as much time as they have before it begins to spoil. Back then they preserved foods so that it wont be spoiled when they go for a war, when they go long distance trip either by land or overseas, and when they just need to save some just in case a famine would strike. And these ways of preserving food have been passed on to the modern world.
Salting- Salting is one of the ways of preserving food that uses a great amount of salt. This is used especially with all types of meat. The process can be done by either rubbing some rock salt on the food or soaking the food in a water mixed with salt. The salt helps in getting rid of the moisture that will gravitate toward the food.
Sugar - another way of preserving is by the use of sugar. This is generally used for preserving fruits. Just like the salting process, the way of preserving food using sugar is to either coat the food with sugar or keep it soaked on sugar syrup.
Drying - It is when the food is seasoned to taste first then expose it under the heat of the sun ranging from a day to a couple of weeks. Drying is perhaps one of the oldest ways of preserving. Foods like beef jerky and dried fish are foods that underwent the drying process. This way of preserving is used to preserve fishes, beef, and some fruits and vegetables.
Freezing - During the ancient times, there were no freezers. That is why ancient people back then would use some snow in order to keep meats fresh. Freezing is a very effective way of preserving food because bacterias cannot really survive on a very cold temperature.
